As previously posted on this website a number of weeks ago Clonliffe Harriers have agreed to act as the host club for the upcoming national juvenile (uneven ages) and national novice cross country championships taking place on Sunday, December 7 at Abbottstown. Unfortunately the previous request for club members to volunteer had a very disappointing response. If we as a club wants to play a role in the promotion and hosting of our sport than it needs you as members of our club to hold up your hand and say: ‘yes, I will help’.
The club’s committee are calling upon our members to make themselves available now to assist on the day. The club’s role will revolve around the course construction in the days before the championships and then on December 7 itself in providing on course marshalling. Numbers wise we will need up to 40 club members for this. It is important that club members appreciate that many of the people who would ordinarily fill this role will not be available on the day as they are coaching and mentoring the Clonliffe teams, therefore this is the time for you, the club members, to step up to the mark. You will be needed the entirety of the day of December 7.
The club captain, Noel Guiden, is the Clonliffe leads on the LOC. He (me!) will be involved on the day in managing teams and cannot be expected also to marshall the course. I need you to help. I’m afraid I do not have the time to ask people individually so please please please take this posting as a request to you directly to help. Please send me a WhatsApp message to confirm that you are prepared to roll up your sleeves, put on your boots and come along on the day. For the event plan I need confirmation on this front within the next 7 days. Please contact me today by WhatsApp to 0879599888. Please do not assume that others will do so. Please make yourself available. We are huge club, we have a huge membership and you would think that it ought to be an easy task for us to provide 40 volunteers, to date unfortunately not so. Please send a WhatsApp message to me now to confirm that you can help out – 0879599888. Nil desperandum!
