This morning we held our Juvenile Club Championships. There was a fantastic turn out of athletes from U9 to U14 and the high numbers competing is very encouraging to see.
Athletes competed in sprints, middle distance and in throws events. Some of the athletes competed in their Long Jump event earlier in the week with the U13 and U14 to theirs along with the high jump.
It was fantastic to see such strong performances in all events, particularly the talent that was seen running down the home straight this morning with the Clonliffe Flags blowing in the wind. The weather was mixed to say the least but the heaviest of downpours didn’t stop them, the strong wind, didn’t slow them and the determination and courage shown by each and every athlete today. Many of our young athletes left with a number of medals but as cheesy as it sounds, each and every participant today did their club and the coaches proud. It was also wonderful to see so many parents in attendance to cheer them on and to see all the hard work pay off.
Emily Bolton gave graciously of her time in the midst of her training for European Championships and European Youth Olympic Federation (EYOF) races later in the summer. More used to receiving than presenting, she presented our well deserving athletes with their medals. I know some of the girls in particular were delighted to be presented with their medals by Emily who is such an inspiration to all her fellow Juvenile Athletes. A special thanks to Emily for taking the time out this morning.
