The big news from Saturday’s Dublin graded meet at the DSD campus is the qualification of the Irish U/23 4 x 100 team for the European U/23 Championships in Bergen, Norway (July 17-20). The team with Craig Duffy clocked a time of 40.45.
Efrem Gidey finished in 2nd place in the British 10,000 Championships at Birmingham University Saturday evening in a time of 28.09.36. Efrem had been going well up until about half way but his progress thereafter was hampered by a serious stitch, and he finished some 40 seconds or so behind winner Emile Cairess (GBR), 27.27.95.

Also at the graded Marcus Lawler was 1st in the 200 in a time of 21.13. In the 3000 Jack Quinn was 9th (9.38.30). Peter Bissett in the 800 2.21.79.
At the BMC meet taking place at the Mary Peters track in Belfast Emily Bolton was 4th in the 1500 in a time of 4.21.91. Stephen Scullion was 11th in the 3000 (8.24.63).
At the Leinster Juvenile Track & Field Sophie Kernan ran as a guest in the U/17 girls 2000 SSC where she finished in 3rd place in 8.12.73.
Turning to the roads, Friday the 13th, Ian Guiden was 2nd in the Boyne 5K in Drogheda (15.10), Gareth Loy, 28th (18.08), Pat O’Grady was 30th and 1st M60 (18.28).
In the Braveheart 5k trail race at Porchfields, trim Co Meath, Sean Doran was 3rd in 16.24.
Also on Friday Darragh Morris ran 19.36 in the Naomh Muuire Daingean 5k in Co Offaly and at the Dublin Pride 5K Melissa Curran ran 23.36 and Aisling Gannon 31.05.
Sunday the 15th, the Castlekock 5k took place where Sean Doran was 2nd (15.33), Tom Sherlock 5th (16.13), others: Tom Griffin 19.02, Dara Peyton 19.53 and Dave Comiskey 19.54.
