Track & Field results: Records, PBs and NI Masters

Saturday, June 21, was a busy and fruitful day for many of the clubs athletes on the track and field front. In Geneva Marcus Lawler ran the 3rd leg on the Irish team that set a new 4 x 100 national record of 38.92 as a team of Michael Farrelly, Bori Akinola, Marcus and Israel Olatunde finished in 2nd place behind the Netherlands. Marcus also recorded a 200 SB of 20.63 as he finished 4th in that race.

Sean Cronin ran a brilliant 1500 pb of 3.45.06 in placing 3rd at the BMC Grand Prix in Loughborough, Birmingham.

There was then a group of the clubs master athletes who travelled to the Mary Peters track in Belfast to compete in Saturday’s Northern Ireland Masters championships. Edel Maguire did a W65 sprint double winning both the 100 in 14.87 and 200 in 30.90, both Irish age category Masters records. Katherine Markey took 2nd place in the W55 200 (31.16). Michael Omakobia was 4th in the M45 100 (12.67).

In the field events Niall Allen took triple gold in the M50 throws – shot (6 KG) with a best of 12.22, discus (1.5 KG) with 35.21 and WFD (12.86). Joe Gibbons in the M65 was 5th in the javelin (14.86), 5th in the shot (8.04) and 4th in the WFD (5.33).

Finally the middle distance events saw Diarmuid Doyle do the double winning both M65 800 (2.41.85) and 1500 (5.59.24). Mick McMahon took 2nd place in both the M45 800 and 1500 in 2.10.24 and 4.36.11. Peter Bissett was 5th in the M35 800 (2.19.92).
