The Harriers were out in force for this morning’s Rathfarnham 5K, which incorporated the Dublin 5K Championships. It proved to be a brilliant morning for the club with Efrem Gidey winning the race in a new course record of 13.49, both the men’s senior team and women’s team took Dublin team gold and the men’s 35 team Dublin bronze. Individual Dublin medals were also won by Efrem, senior men’s gold, Colm Rooney M40 gold, Cathal McHale M35 silver and Eleandor Alexandra W35 silver.
Efrem took up the running from the off, and certainly looks well recovered from his world championship 10,000 exploits in Tokyo as he beat the previous course record by some 2 seconds. Excellent runs also on the men’s team in particular from Colm Rooney in 4th position, 1st M40 in 14.11, 7th was Fintan Kerins 14.24 and on a short visit back home Ben Coughlan was 11th in 14.44. These 4 made up the scoring for that won Dublin gold and also took the open team category.
The scoring 4 on the women’s team that took Dublin gold where Niamh Kelly, with a 20+ second PB of 17.10, Eleanor Alexander 18.15, Alanna Burke who went sub 19 for the 1st time (18.54), and Jenny Johnston 19.14.
Cathal McHale, Karl Nolan, Anto Doran and James Dunne took M35 team bronze.
There are a whole raft of PBs recorded including Malcom Kiplagat 15.18, Lee Duddy 15.28, Eamon Harkin 16.30, and Sarah Owens 22.02.
