Eugenia Bateson reports: Another wet night on the track as we held our traditional Christmas Cake Race for the U12 to U15’s. The cakes seemed to be more contested than the National Championships with the prize of a Christmas Yule Chocolate Log up for grabs.
The U12 girls got the races under way with the handicap carefully calculated by coaches. However, the youngest of competitors was put to the back under this system. And did it deter her?? No. Ellie Walsh had a a fine win and the first recipient of the Cake
The U12 Boys were up next and Fionn Culligan was the winner of this 600m race.
Next up were our sprints group taking on the 400m which to some, felt like a marathon. That said brilliant runs, I would suggest maybe we bring chocolate to the Dublin Indoor Championships in January as a motivator. The winner of the girls race was Grace Keegan with a brilliant run and Isaac O’Neill winning the boys race.
From Brendan and Paul’s group Ava Fagan was victorious once again as she really enjoyed last years cake. Also starting at the back she was determined to take that cake home. Tom Byrne was equally impressive winning the boys race.
In the U15 race, Joel Thomas won the Boys cake in a very competitive race with Tess Deegan winning the girls.
Many thanks to all the parents who came along to support as well as our coaches who had the unenviable task of working out the handicaps.
Photos can be see on the club Juvenile Instagram Page. Well done to all.
Some groups will train on Sunday so please check your WhatsApp groups or check with your coach. We will hold our Christmas Party and Juvenile awards night on Tuesday from 7.15 to 9pm in the Clubhouse Bar. There will be no training that night so dress to impress!! We will then take a well deserved break over the Christmas.
