Ben was in the lead group from the off and made the telling move for home on the long uphill at roughly 800 to go, he was chased all the way by DSD’s Aaron Donnelly with both involved in a titanic sprint for the line over the final 200, Ben taking gold in a time of 14.27, which was 20 second PB, a winning margin of 2 seconds. Killian Mooney of DSD took bronze. There was an excellent run in 10th position by Mahad Mohamed Egaal (14.55), Malcom Kiplagat 17th (15.30) with the scoring 4 completed by Karl Nolan (16.06) in 30th.

In the Masters category Karl Nolan took M40 silver and Mick McMahon M45 bronze.

The women’s team had this event as their spring goal and with purposeful focus carried away team gold. The team was led home in 5th place by Helena Butterly with a new PB of 16.48, in 6th place was Sofia Chetelat in a road 5K PB of 16.57, Sophie however did not count in the national championships, Hope Saunders in 8th position was the team’s 2nd score, also in a PB, 17.16 with the scoring 3 completed by Niamh Kelly 17.28, also a PB, taking team gold on 22 points with Galway city Harriers 2nd on 30 and DCH 3rd on 38.
