Awards for Clonliffe Athletes

The annual athletics Ireland awards lunch took place at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Santry yesterday (November 26th). Edel Maguire, having been nominated the past 2 years, received the award of Master athlete of the year. Edel has had a stellar year winning world and European titles and in the process setting Irish Masters records and indeed her win in the 400 at the European championships in Madeira in a time of 68.44 was a European W65 record.

Marcus Lawler was part of the Irish 4 x 100 relay team that was awarded the Team of the Year Award after breaking the national record twice in one week, including a 38.88 clocking at the European Team Championships.

Efrem Gidey was nominated in the endurance athlete of the year category however the award went to Fionnuala McCormack (Kilcoole AC).

It was an enjoyable day attended by the club President, officers, committee members, coaches and athletes including Eoin Sheridan, Grace Casey, Helena Butterly, Garrett O’Toole, Malcom Kiplagat and of course Edel, Efrem and Marcus.
