Day 1 Leinster Schools Senior 1500m titles, Day 2 Minors & Juniors

Yesterday, May 12th, saw the first day of the Leinster Schools Championships in Tullamore and the turn of the Intermediate and Senior ages. Titles were taken in Girls and Boys Senior 1500ms by Emily Bolton (4:42.20) and Lorcan Benjacar in 4:05.90.  Aidan Benjacar joined the big brother in this race and finished 5th in 4:10.40

In the 800m Rory Quill took 3rd in 1:54.21 taking him through to the All Ireland Schools Championships later this month.

In the 3000m Isla Duncan finished 6th in 10:52 and in the 5000m Matei Ursachi finished 4th in 15:55

In the 2000m Senior Steeplechase, Liam Arthur finished 5th in 6:43.5 with Jack Quinn finishing in 7th in 6:56.3

In the Sprints, Christopher Lynch was 2nd in the Senior 400m in a strong head wind on the home straight with a PB of 49.07. Emily Jachna finished 4th in her Senior 200m in 26.40.

In the Intermediate sprints, Mark Murray finished 5th in the 100m in 11.89 and 5th in the 200m in 23.55

Matthew Keogh jumped 1.65 in the Inter High Jump competition finishing in 8th position.

In the Senior girls 4 x 100m Emily Jachna and Sarah McDonnell’s team took the well deserved win for Dominican College Griffith Avenue in 50.67

In the Senior boys 4 x 400m Christopher Lynch, James Duane and William Walsh’s Belvedere team finished 5th.

Well done to Emily, Lorcan,  Rory, Christopher, Emily J and Sarah  who will all represent their schools in the All Ireland’s in Tullamore on the 30th/31st May.

Day 2, May 13th: Day 2 of the Leinster Championships took place in Tullamore with the Minor and Junior athletes.

Romi Banim competed in both the 100m and 200m   She finished 3rd in the 200m in a time of 27.06 and 4th in the 100 in 13.13.

In the Minor Girls 500m Nessa Byrne finished 9th in 1:35.47

Carragh Nigfhloinn just missed qualification to the All Irelands in finishing 4th in the 1,100m in 3:46.  He training buddy, Luke Tracey also finished 4th in the boys race in 3:22.23

In the Javelin, Ava Cosgrave finished 5th with a throw of 20.60 in the Minor Girls with Sophie O’Connor also finishing 5th in the Junior Girls Javelin with her throw of 22.92.

Eoghan Thompson finished 3rd on count back in the High Jump with a jump of 1.50 bringing him through the the All Ireland Schools Championships.
