Clonliffe St. Patrick’s Day pots of gold, plus round up

Stephen Bateson reports: A truly dominant performance from Clonliffe’s Harriers at the St Patrick’s Day 5k in Tallaght on Tuesday the 17th. On what was a very blustery day not suited to fast times or Pb’s, Clonliffe’s secured the top 3 positions in the race with the racing enigma that is Colm Rooney securing the win in the last 300m in 15:07, followed by Ben Guiden, last year’s title winner in second in 15:15 with Mahad Mohamed Egaal in 3rd place in 15:17.  Clonliffe had a fourth athlete in the top 10 with Malcom Kiplagat securing 8th place in 15:50. With that the team prize was won with an impressive 16 points. With another 5 athletes in the top 20,Conor Fitzpatrick Lee Duddy, Cian Murray and Damien Prendergast, Clonliffe also secured 2nd Team with 60 points. In 20th was Karl Nolan who was 1st Male O/40 in 16:25. Stephen Harkness was 2nd in the M O/40 category.

In the women’s race Helena Butterly was 3rd in 17:21, with the team securing 2nd with 45 points, only 3 points behind winners Sportsworld on 42 points. The scoring 4 with Helena were Laura Tuite, Ailbhe Morgan and Aoife O’Reilly. In the Female Junior category Ayana O’Callaghan was first with a time of 19:41 with Sophie Kerman 2nd in 20:17.

The Dublin Novice Championship was incorporated into the race which was a very successful outing with both the women’s and men’s team winning The Dublin Novice Road Team Titles. The women’s team of Ailbhe Morgan, Aoife O’Reilly, Ayana O’Callaghan and Sophie Kernan won with 29 points, ahead of Crusaders on 58 points, and DCH on 74 points. In the men’s Novice Race Clonliffe secured Gold and Silver in the Teams with Team 1 of Malcom, Cian Murray, Conor Fitzpatrick and Damien Prendergast winning on 16 points from the Clonliffe team2 of Karl Nolan, Aaron Murray, Stephen Harkness and Paul Keenan on 60 points. 

Malcom Kiplagat was the Dublin Novice Champion ahead of Ben Caullier of Lucan Harriers and Conor Fitzpatrick in 3rd.

Clonliffe Tallaght 5k results:

In other events on St Patrick’s day, Natalia Lunga was first female in the “Up and Out”, St Patrick’s day run in 42:40 in the 10K race.

Niamh Quinn went sub 20’ in 19:45 in the Streets of Portlaoise race. 

Chloe Heaslip ran a 3k PB of 10.53 in the Letterkenny 3k road race.

Joey Szpara  was 57th in the AON Mullingar half marathon in 1:23:31 and Meabh O’Sullivan completing in 1:50:40.
