Clonliffe athletes were in Athlone today for the Leinster indoor championships. Once again some excellent performances from the club’s senior and master athletes resulting in a fine haul of medals coming back to Santry.
Star of the day was undoubtedly Craig Duffy who lit up the venue blasting out of the blocks in the senior 60 to win in a new championship record of 6.81. Earlier Craig had ran 6.86 in his heat. Niamh Tenanty in the senior women 60 finished 6th in her heat (8.58). Snezana Bechtina bagged double W40 sprint silver, she finished 2nd in the 60 (8.34) and also 2nd in the 200 (27.13). Cian O’Loughlin took M35 60 bronze clocking 7.92 and later finished 4th in the 200 (26.45). It was bronze also for Michael Omakobla in the M40 60 (8.20).
There was great success for the club in the throws. Jaheim Humphrey took men’s U/20 shot silver with a best of 13.87. Niall Allen took M50 gold on the double as he won the shot with 12.67 and the WFD with 8.67. Likewise it was double gold for Vivian Okafor firstly M40 shot (8.12) and then WFD (5.58).
Andrej Dmitrenko continued his excellent season in the M55 pole vault taking gold with a best of 3.20.
Aisling Andrews won W35 1500 gold (5.31.54) and likewise it was gold in the M40 1500 for Niall Sherlock (4.29.70). The M40 800 saw a great inter-Clonliffe battles where Niall Sherlock narrowly took silver (2.12.16) ahead of Stephen Harkness taking bronze (2.12.68). George Maybury was 4th in the M70 800 (3.16.09).
Edel Maguire added yet another gold to her collection as she won the W65 400 (69.40). Mel Curran took M45 400 gold (1.19.58) and was 4th in the 800 (3.07.09). Fionnuala Smith took M50 400 silver (1.20.94) and 800 bronze (3.05.65). Whilst Siobhan McCarthy the opposite in the same age category winning 800 silver (3.04.69) and 400 bronze (1.22.27).
