Rhys Daly reports: yesterday, May 10th, a large number of Clonliffe runners from U10-U16 travelled to Tallaght for the 2nd meet of this year’s outdoor league. If i’m being honest, everyone did so much better than I thought they would. Everyone was training hard for this competition and they ran outstandingly on the day.
U10s – First up, in the U10 long jump, Alexandrin, Joana, Leah, Ellie, and Abby had put in their best efforts in the long jump with all of them jumping amazingly. After the long jump, there was the 60 metre dash, with Gavin as the only U10 boy, leaning at the line to take 5th in his heat. In the girls race, there were many more competing. Joana got off to a good start in Heat 3 taking 3rd place in hear heat in 9.87, and 9th overall, out of 117. Remarkable run from her. Also in the girls there was Alexandrin, Abby, Ellie, and Leah. Great overall competition for the U10’s.
U11s – In the U11 events, there was an early start with the turbo javelin with Odhran, Patrick, and Eoin throwing respectably. In the 60 metres for the U11’s, Eoin started the show off with a rapid heat, coming 2nd in one of the fastest heats. In the girls races, in heat 3, Sophie Henry started fast, comfortably winning her heat. In heat 5, Sophie Lynam dashed down the track, leaning to take 1st in her heat by a fraction of a second. Also competing in the sprint, were Leah, Lily, and Emma competing excellently, Amazing for the U11’s to come out here so early in the morning, honestly I felt like sleeping in the morning of the race!
U12s – Next up were the U12’s, competing in the shot put and the sprint. In the shot put, Matilda was the only U12 representing Clonliffe, throwing very well for her age. In the sprint, Lenny started in the first heat, respectably taking 4th place. Joshua and Stefans ran very fast in their crowded heats. Matilda was in heat 2 out of the girls, taking 7th. In the 10th and final heat, Elena started in lane 2, taking 3rd place and the proud feeling of running. In the high jump, once again Matilda, cleared the 1.00 metre mark in her 2nd try. Now that the first jumps warmed her up, she had a crack at the 1.05 metre mark, clearing it comfortably in her first try. She now had to try clear 1.10 metres, but sadly, her competition ends there. She jumped remarkably and made it pretty far!
U13s – In the U13’s, there was an enormous group of kids coming out to compete in the 2 events they had. The first event of the day was the shot put. The boys were up first with only Rhys (Me) taking 9th out of a group of 20 kids. In the girls however, there was way more athletes than in the boys. Mila was in a bigger crowd than the boys, taking 11th out of 37. Aoife, Sarah, Muireann, Caoimhe, Molly and Emily threw around the same distances as each other, throwing in (likely) their first shot put competition.
Moving on to the sprint, the girls were up first, with Mila competing in the first heat, taking 6th place. In the second heat, Molly, also took 6th. In the 3rd heat Muireann comfortably took 3rd place in 11.91. In the next heat, Lucy took 5th place. In heat 5 Adrianna took 2nd with 11.82, and Caoimhe in the same heat, taking 6th, but there was only a fifth of a second between 3rd and 7th, a very close race. In the 6th race, Aoife ran great, taking 7th. In the 2nd last heat, Sarah ran in a heat with the person that won, who got 3rd overall. Sarah came 5th. And in the final heat, Ava ran closely with the person who got 2nd overall, but got leaned out by her, Ava took 2nd place in that heat with a time of 11.70. Every single heat in the girls race had someone from Clonliffe. That just shows how many girls came out to compete.
Next up, there was the boys race. Max went first out of Clonliffe in heat 3, taking 2nd in the heat and 7th overall and 11.22, barely missing out on points. Directly after that race, had Isaac racing, taking a close 2nd in 10.86 and finishing with 3rd overall. In the final heat, Rhys (Me again) and Channing pushed past the starting line, with Rhys surging in the front with another runner, Rhys kept up the pace, taking 1st in 10.74, and 2nd overall, Channing came 3rd with 11.35.
U14s – In the U14’s, there were 4 events, Starting with the 80m dash as the first track event of the day. In the girls, First up was Aliyah, finishing in 6th. In heat 3, was Julia, coming 2nd in 11.38 against the overall 2nd place. Next up was Katelyn, coming in 7th place in her heat. Next up were the boys, with Jayden, coming 3rd in his first race for the club. In heat 4, Adam Phelan sprinted with a gutsy effort, taking 5th place. In the final heat, Sorley was placed in lane 4, coming 3rd in 11.35. Next was the Discus Throw, with Katelyn being the only competitor, she took a wonderful 3rd place with 14.08 metres, that 3rd came with a whopping 10 minutes of training, a true natural. After that was the High Jump, with Katelyn and Sorley competing. Katelyn completed 1.10 metres, But sadly didn’t make 1.15 metres. Sorley was in the boys competition, jumping very well for someone who hasn’t done high jump before. In the final event of the day, there were a few runners in the 800 metre run. Darragh and Adam ran with great endurance, taking 11th and 12th respectively. In heat 1 of the girls, Nessa stuck with the front pack, but got outkicked in the finish, taking 3rd in 2:35.81. In heat 2, Katelyn once again ran as hard as she could, taking 12th.
U15s – Rachel was in the 1st heat of the 100 metre dash, coming 5th. In heat 2, Savannah took 5th place. In heat 4, Elena took 7th place with a good run. In the girls Javelin Throw, Eleanor, Sophie, and Savannah took 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively. In the 800 metre run, Hayden was in a tough race, competing with 2 other boys, in the final stretch, one of them tried to spurt ahead, but Hayden held them off, Hayden took 1st with 2:14.76. Joel was straight after him, putting in great effort, coming 5th in 2:22.39. After Joel was Oliver, coming in 10th with 2:34.08. In heat 2 of the girls race, Carragh came 3rd with 2:34.21.
U16s – Nobody competed in the Javelin, but in the Long Jump, Ella produced fine jumps, taking 10th. Cormac Tynan ran in the 800 metre run for the boys, taking 5th in 2:22.11. In the 100 metres, there were a mix of athletes running, Laura King took 7th place in Heat 1. In Heat 2 Jessica ran very well, taking 4th. Clodagh took 5th in Heat 3. In Heat 4, Ella put in great effort. In the fifth and final heat, Romi put in a speedy time of 13.10, taking 1st in her heat and tied 4th overall.
