And so the seasons overlap! With the cross country season still in full swing, the indoor season got underway tonight at the NIA in Abbottstown with the 1st round of the Track and Field live series. There was a great range of Clonliffe athletes competing from juvenile’s right through to Masters. The big news is the world record (subs to ratification) in the women’s W40 4 x 400 relay featuring Clonliffe’s Snezana Bechtina.
In the senior program Sean Carrigg is clearly ‘wintering well’ showing a fine turn of speed in the 800 to win heat 2 in a new indoor PB of 1.56.51, the fastest of the night. In heat 3 there was a good interclub battle where Stas Zielinski 3rd (2.21.77), 5th was Peter Bissett (2.27.86) and 6th Dave Comiskey (2.29.57).

Snezana Bechtina ran the 2nd leg on an Irish W40 relay team that clocked a world best of 3.57.61, some 6 seconds faster than the existing record. This time may well be a world record, subject of course to ratification. Snezana’s team mates were Sinead O’Connor, Bronwyn McDonald and Annette Quaid.
In the 60 sprints Laura Gerber took 1st in her race (no time available) whilst Emily Jachna was 4th in heat 3 (8.12), in series 2 Emily clocked 8.18.
In the men’s 60s Sam O’Reilly was 1st in heat 1, this was again a Clonliffe interclub battle, Sam recorded a time of 7.39. Tom Moran 3rd (7.69) and Colin Daly 7th (8.47). Evan Storey was 3rd in heat 2 in a time of 7.57. In series 2 Tom Moran 7.69, Colin Daly 8.50, Evan Storey 7.57.
Turning now to the juvenile programme, in the boys U/12 60 James Glynn was 2nd in heat 1, Charlie O’Regan was 4th in heat 2, Ben McHugh 3rd in heat 3, Lenny Keane Flannery took 1st place in heat 4 and John Carroll was 6th in heat 5. Mark Sutton was 4th in heat 2 of his 60.
Ria Hobbs took 1st place in the girls U/12 600 with Molly O’Brien 5th. In the U/12 boys 600 Charlie O’Regan was 4th and Ben McHugh 7th.
The U/14 girls 800 saw Nessa Byrne finish 6th with Hannah NiMhuireheartaigh just behind her in 7th. The boys U/14 race was like a Clonliffe club championship where Max Bamford took 1st place, Channing O’Shea 2nd and Rhys Daly 3rd.

The next NIA Live meet is December 17th.
