Titles and medals from U/20 and U/23 nationals

Clonliffe athletes put in stellar displays at today’s national U/20 and U/23 track and field championships in Tullamore, Co Offaly. Highlights included a magnificent U/23 Clonliffe javelin one two, courtesy of Euan Canniffe and Hubert Adamczyk, national U/20 discus tile and hammer silver for Megan Comiskey and a national U/20 800 title for Sean Cronin.

Starting with U/20 Championships Sean Cronin qualified comfortably for the final, courtesy of a 1.58.44 2nd position in his heat and then in the final ran superbly to win in 1.56.82. Rory Quill was disappointed not to make the final finishing 6th in his heat (2.03.20). In the 1500 Lorcan Benjacar took national bronze in a time of 4.02.34, fine run also by younger brother Aidan to finish 7th (4.04.76).

Megan Comiskey had an excellent day! Gold in the u/20 discus with 44.89 and silver in the hammer 43.47.

Both Davey Davitt (49.10) and Christopher Lynch (50.09) won their heats and in the final Davey took bronze in 48.49 with Christopher 4th (49.28).

Bilal Kanimodo ran very well in the U/20 100, he was 2nd in his heat (10.97) and in the final finished 6th in 10.85. Lucas Subak was 5th in his heat (11.40). James Lynch finished 5th in the 110 hurdles (15.43) and in the 400 hurdles finished 2nd in heat 2 (61.55).

Lewis Caird took 7th position in the hammer with a best throw of 32.24.

Moving on then to the U/23 Championships where the Clonliffe duo put in a great performance in the javelin with Euan edging it and taking the title with a best of 49.44, Hubert was 2nd 49.06.

Isaac Murray also medalled, he took silver in the discus with a best throw of 38.04.

Silver also for Craig Duffy in the 100, having qualified through the heat with a 10.81 run Craig clocked 10.93 in the final to take silver. Luca Logue-Fonseca also made the final, he ran 10.92 in his heat and in the final finished 6th (11.15).
