Ladies Night!

Today’s rain and cold could not dampen the enthusiasm of the Clonliffe women taking part in the club’s Women in Sport week track night at Morton Stadium. Thanks to the cajoling of Sarah Bateson, our women in sports officer, there was a great turnout of female athletes between the juveniles and then in the 2000m race, juniors, seniors and masters with total numbers in the region of 100 taking part, a considerable uplift on last year’s inaugural night.

Things got underway at 8 PM, at this stage it appropriate to thank the clubs coaches who kindly suspended their groups’ training so the races could continue in a safe environment. The night kicked off with the 100s for the younger ages, all went off well and all athletes ran in the right direction!! We then moved on to the 400s and 800s, to accommodate the numbers these races all started on the curved line, rather than in lanes and again great fun was had by all with Easter eggs for the top 3 in each race and chocolate for all.

The wiiners:

U/8 100 – Louise

U/11 100- Nevean

U/12 100 – Shannon

U/14 400 – Meava

U/14 800 – Ava

The final race was the 2000m which had a field of almost 30, an eclectic mix of youth and experience. Although was a night to celebrate women in sport rather than winners, the race winner was Helena Butterly in 6.39, 2nd with a late burst was Ailbhe Morgan with Laura Tuite 3rd.

Of the juniors: 1st Alex Wallace, 2nd Lucy McFeteridge, 3rd Carragh Nigfhloinn.

In the clubhouse postevent there was a great social get-together, (confined to tea and biscuits it must be siad), where clubmates had the opportunity for a catch up and a chat. It was an all an excellent night. Well done to all, thanks to the officials who helped out and a special congratulations to Sarah Bateson.
