The 123.ie national indoor championships got underway at the NIA, Abbottstown today. It was a bit of a mixed bag from a Clonliffe perspective, although Marcus Lawler took silver in the 200, as defending champion he was disappointed with the outcome coming up 2nd best to Raheny’s Mark Smyth. Marcus clocked a time of 21.24 having earlier in his heat ran 21.34.
Christopher Lynch finished 2nd in his 200 heat in a new PB of 22.69 however failed to progress. In the 4 x 200 relays the Clonliffe women’s team of Emily Jachna, Sarah McDonnell, Grainne Diamond Ebs and Romi Banim put in a fine performance finishing in 4th position in a time of 1.45.28. The men’s team of Christopher Sibanda, Anthony Dillon, Taylor Ryan and Christopher Lynch also ran very well finishing 3rd in their heat (1.32.65), 5th place overall.


Niall Allen finished in 4th position in the WFD with a best of 6.56m.
In the middle distance events Hannah Segrave won her 800 heat in a time of 2.08.03, the fastest of the day, and progresses to tomorrow’s final. Unfortunately our 800 men bowed out in the heats, Sean Carrigg finished in 4th place (1.55.13), Damien Prendergast had a good outing in the next heat finishing in 3rd position in 1.57.41 and likewise Stas Zielinski was 7th in his heat (2.10.48) and bowed out. In the 1500 Fintan Kerins made the final courtesy of a fine 2nd place in heat 2 (4.05.08) with Niall Sherlock 11th in this heat (4.29.02). Young Isla Duncan will benefit from the experience in the women’s 1500 where she placed 8th in her heat equalling her PB as she clocked 4.45.43.
