Another busy weekend for the Harriers with several travelling north for the Belfast Classic yesterday, May 9 and then today at Morton Stadium for the Dublin graded meet.
In Belfast there were some excellent performances by the club’s athletes. Craig Duffy was in green on the Irish 4 x 100 team that finished 2nd to Cardiff recording a time of 40.04.
In the 400 B race Christopher Lynch had a very positive day recording a new PB of 48.17 as he finished in 2nd position.
Niamh Kelly in the 800 C opened her season placing 4th in 2.10.54, only a fraction outside of her PB.
In the men’s 800s there was a great Clonliffe battle in race D as Sean Carrigg held off Damien Prendergast, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively and both set a new PB’s: Sean 1.52.84 and Damien 1.54.02. Rory Quill continues his comeback from injury and took 6th place (1.59.67). In the 800 I race young Eddy Blacgue ran a most mature race to take 1st place in a time of 2.02.10.
The women’s 1500 B race featured 3 of the Clonliffe women: Laura Tuite had an outstanding run taking 2nd place in a time of 4.38.09, a 3 seconds plus PB. Alibhe Morgan put in a fine batting display to finish 11th in 4.50.75. Alannah Cooley was going well for two thirds but then the rigours of the Dublin city half marathon only 6 days ago came home to roost and she finished almost on her knees! (4.54.75).
A new 1500 pb also for Fintan Kerins of 3.50.35 as he finished 6th in a quality A race. In the B race Ed Tottenham continues his comeback from injury, improving on his last outing as he clocked 4.00.67 placing 14th. Aidan Benjacar, also getting back into racing form following injury took 10th the 1500 C (4.08.05) and in the D race Jack Quinn was 10th (4.12.37) with Aaron Murray 11th a fraction behind in 4.13.35.
Tom Breslin also recorded a new PB having a very solid run in the 3000 A race taking 5th place (8.31.87).







Sunday: the Dublin graded Meet 2 at Morton Stadium: David Donegan took 1st place in the men’s pole vault with a best of 3.50m. in the men’s 1500 grade C Stephen Lyons was 2nd (4.17.26) a pb with Niall Sherlock 4th (4.23.17).
Sophie Kernan was in steeplechase action and was 1st in the 2000sc in grade C (7.59.80).
In the 200 Snezana Bechtina took 1st place in grade C (26.47) and in grade D heat 3 Maggie Szuta was 2nd (27.88).
Christopher Lynch recorded his second PB of the weekend clocking 22.45 finished 3rd in the 200 A. In the 200 C, heat 3, Thomas Moran ran 24.37.
The men’s discus has considerable Clonliffe interest, with 5 athletes competing. National champion Eoin Sheridan took 1st place with a best of 52.51. Jaheim Humphreys to 47.30 for 2nd place (1.5 KG). Niall Allen (1.5 KG) 233.42, Conor Shevlin (1.5 KG) 24.58 and Joe Gibbons (1 KG) 20.91.

On the roads this weekend, it was quiet enough from a Clonliffe perspective, Friday night, May 8, David Comiskey ran 21.37 in the Leixlip 5k. On Sunday Caitriona Bregazzi was 6th woman in the Sportsworld 5 mile in the Terenure in 30.35 and at the Maynooth 10 K Lisa Lawler ran 66.35.
