Luca wins National U/23 60!

Stephen Bateson reports: The club sprinters were again to the fore at Saturday’s (March 14th) National U20/23 in TUS Athlone were Luca Logue Fonseca secured the U23 title and his first National win in the 60m in a time of 6:84. Luca won Heat 2 of the semis in 6:95. Clonliffe were strongly represented in the final with the fast improving Sean Harman just missing out on bronze and having to settle for 4th in a time of 6:96. Sean had come through his semi Heat 1 in 2nd in 7:00.

Also in the U23 Heats were Adam Festus 7:29 in Heat 2, and Bilal Kanimodo in 7:11 and making his championship debut Brandon Muchini in 7:21. 

Mark Murray was the sole representative in the U20 60 m however he did progress from Heat 4 where he finished in 3rd in 7:32. 

Findlay McGill was also making his National Championship debut in the U20 400m, where despite winning Heat 4 in 50:06 he unfortunately did not progress to the final. 

In the women’s 800m, which was a straight final, Goda Buivydyte made a fine return to racing and finished in 7th position in a time of 2:18:80. In the men’s 800m, Edy Blacque found the pace hot in the fastest of the heats, finishing in 6th in 2:06:18. 

Isla Duncan competed in Heat 2 of the women’s 1500m and ran a very fine race making her way through the field to take an impressive 2nd. Matei Ursachi was in Heat 1 of the Men’s 1500 m and certainly looked back in form as he finished 7th in 4:03:71. In heat 2 Jack Quinn again showed his continued progression with a pb of 4:13:66 and a 6th place. 

In the field, Jaheim Humphreys gained valuable experience in the U20 shot put finishing 4th with a throw of 14.27 m.
