Last year the historic Clonliffe 2 managed to sidestep Storm Ashley. This year it was the threat of Storm Amy, once again luck was on the side of The 2, and for the 134th successive year The Clonliffe 2 took place.
This race is Ireland’s oldest and one of the oldest in the world, it is without a doubt the world’s oldest continuous race – even Covid was sidestepped, that particular year the race was run as a time trial in pods. Once again the race returned to its ‘traditional’ Glasnevin ‘home’, generously sponsored by the Kavanagh family of John Kavanagh’s ‘the Gravediggers’. The race started on Glasnevin Hill, close to the Met office and then made the left hand turn down past the historic Glasnevin cemetery where many a Clonliffe Harrier found their final resting place, before turning back into Prospect Square and the home of the finest pint in Dublin, the Gravediggers and the finish line.
Today’s race drew a healthy enough entry, although numbers were a little down on last year, some 100 plus took to the start line. The winner of the 134th Clonliffe 2, with a home win for Clonliffe, was Sean Carrigg turning last year’s 2nd into his biggest win to date breasting the tape in 9.56. Sean was followed in by Sean Doran 9.59 and making it a second Clonliffe 1, 2, 3 in a row was Malcom Kiplagat (10.03).

First woman and 8th overall was Rachel Murphy (Plant Based AC) 11.07, North East runners AC’s Aine Cotter was was with 2nd, 9th overall (11.11) with Clonliffe’s Alannah Cooley 3rd (11.32), 12th overall.
In the U/20s 1st man was Conor McGuirk (Lusk AC) and Sophie Kernan was 1st U/20 woman.
