Saturday’s Cake race final instructions

There’s a good entry of some 75 or so athletes for Saturday’s annual club cake race. The race will take place at 3:45 PM on the paths in Santry Park, Clonliffe are grateful to Fingal for their kind permission for use of the park for our annual club race. As per tradition the race will be run on an open handicap basis with the slower athletes going off first right down to the scratch man several minutes later. The race is approximately a 2 mile distance consisting of 3 x 1,000+ m laps on the path starting from the monument.

Instructions:

Check-in – all athletes must check-in. Check in is at the clubhouse from 2.45pm to 3.15pm. After you check in you ‘ll be given your race number, please pin to the front of your racing singlet/t shirt.

Prerace briefing – this will take place at the monument at 3:30 PM.

Start time – First athletes will be sent underway at 3:45 PM.

Handicaps – this is an open handicap race, all handicaps have been preassigned, check the start position below so you are aware as to when you will be starting, with the short gap between group starting there will not be sufficient time to call out all names, it is your responsibility to know when you should be starting.

Late entries – if any club member not entered has decided that they would like to race do come along on the day and you will be assigned a race number however it is too late to be assigned a handicap therefore all late entries will run with the scratch man.

Car parking – Morton Stadium only at Clonliffe side (please do not park in Santry Park, you may find your car locked in!).

The race – will take place on the pathway, please be aware that the park will still be open to the public and footpaths need to be shared, be wary therefore at all times of members of the public and the possibility of dogs. Be careful and courteous.

Results– will be posted on the club website on Sunday morning

Prizes – a Christmas cake will be presented at the prize-giving to the 1st senior man and woman, 1st master man and woman and 1st U/20 man and woman. There will also be a prize for the fastest woman and fastest man.

Spot prizes – any club member who wishes to donate a spot prizes can do so that evening. All spot prizes will be given out at the presentation.

Presentation/social – from 6:30 PM in the clubhouse. Hot food will be available from 7 PM. The presentation of prizes in the cake race will take place at 8 PM followed immediately by the club’s annual athletes of the year awards. Please leave your car at home and join your clubmates for a good social night.
