A storm or two was never going to deter the 20,000+ participants in this 45th addition of the Dublin Marathon which took place in blustery tough conditions on the capital’s streets today.
The Dublin Marathon is one of the highlights of the athletics calendar and with the incorporation also of the national marathon championships there was a healthy Clonliffe Harriers presence in the race. The first Clonliffe athlete home was the extraordinary, ageless, evergreen (take your pick) Gary O’Hanlon placing 27th and 1st M50 in 2:27.37. Gary took the National M50 gold. Bronze M50 was won by Oran Finegan (2:39.54). First Clonliffe women was Eleanor Alexander in 3:13.01.
Excellent running by all the 50 or so Clonliffe athletes with special mention of Anto Doran PB of 2:35.58 and Alan Worrall running his final race in black and amber before moving on to pastures new.

Catch up on last weekend’s marathons: Niall Norman made his debut in Toronto, Canada clocking 2:53.09 and in Amsterdam Killian Lonergan 2:48.13.
