Great evening for Clonliffe athletes at National Masters

The national Masters track and field championships got underway yesterday evening, August 7, as a sun drenched Morton Stadium. It proved to be an excellent evening for Clonliffe athletes with several national titles being secured.

There was double success in the 3000 steeplechase with Niall Sherlock winning M40 gold (12.13.98), in what may well have been his debut in the event! Gold also in the M55 for David Dunwoody (13.09.03).

Philip O’Doherty took M65 1500 gold (5.14.71) with Diarmuid Doyle just out of the medals in 4th (5.44.62).

In the field events the ever reliable Edel Maguire struck gold yet again winning the M65 high jump title with a 1.30 best.

Gold also for Vivian Okafor in the W40 WFD with a 5.82 effort. Vivian was 4th in the shot (7.49).

It was silver in the M50 shot for Niall Allen (12.30). Niall was also competing in the WFD where again he took silver (8.49). Joe Gibbons took M65 WFD bronze (2.98).

The action continues once again today in Morton Stadium.
