Marcus Lawler has qualified for the European track and field championships 200 semi-final later tonight. In this morning’s qualifying round, using the ‘fastest through’ system Marcus finished 5th in heat 2 in a time of 20.94. That time was 11th fastest overall putting Marcus into tonight’s semifinals taking place just after 8 PM in Birmingham.

Marcus later lined up in the European championship 200 semi-final where he put in another fine performance placing 8th in a time of 21.11. Marcus’ Euro journey continues as he is part of the Irish 4 x 100 squad for the relays later in the championship.
August 13th proved to be an historic night for Irish athletics with Mark English (Finn Valley) taking magnificent gold in the 800 in a time of 1.45.26 and 30 minutes later Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght AC) took 200 silver in a new national record of 22.28.
Friday in Birmingham will see Clonliffe’s Cathal Doyle in action in the 1st round of the men’s 1500.
