Shane Rooney reports: David Murphy delivered an outstanding performance at the Last One Standing Florence Court backyard ultra on Saturday, June 20th.
The backyard ultra is a demanding endurance format where runners complete a 4.2-mile loop through the trails of Florence Court forest near Enniskillen, with a fresh lap starting every hour, on the hour.
Each loop must be finished within the hour, leaving runners to use whatever time remains to recover, refuel, and prepare for the next start, failure to make the start line in time results in elimination.
Starting with a goal of covering 160km within 24 hours, David reached his target in strong form and chose to push on.
Showing remarkable resilience and determination, he continued deep into the race, ultimately achieving a superb new PB of 204km over 30 hours.
A fantastic achievement and a testament to David’s endurance, pacing, and mental strength.
