Eugenia Bateson reports: Day 1 and 2 of the National Juvenile Championships are now complete and it it was a brilliant weekend across track and field events

U19 Girls 3000m – Isla Duncan – Silver

U13’s – Luke Stevenson finished 9th in the Javelin competition with an impressive throw of 22.78. In the 80m Sprint the very talented Joshua Conaghan secured a Q in Heat 1 in 10.55 and had a brilliant run in the final finishing an agonizing 4th with a time of 10.72 missing a medal by a mere 0.01 of a second. A great future ahead of this young man. On day 2, Lenny Keane Flannery finished 4th in heat one and through to the National final with a q in a time of 10.51. The 8th fastest U13 hurdler in the country in the final shows a bright future ahead for Lenny.
U14’s – Maeva Edo Czechowska also finished in her 80m Sprint heat in 10.41 with a Q. She ran 10.64 in the final finishing 7th. In the Boys sprints Isaac O’Neill and Rhys Daly both ran in heat 2 with Isaac snatching a q to the final in 10.08 with Rhys finishing 7th in that heat in 10.51. Isaac finished 6th in the final in 10.17. In the Hammer event, Dylan Thompson finished first with an impressive throw of 39.55 in the Hammer event and our first title of these championships. Isaac O’Neill won the Long Jump with a jump o f5.46 with Channing O’Shea finishing 4th with his jump of 5.26. In the high jump, Channing O’Shea took the bronze with his jump of 1.58 in very windy conditions! Rhys Daly finished 8th with his best jump of 1.50. On day 2, Maeva Edo Czechowska finished 3rd in the 75m Hurdles in heat 2 with a Q to the final in 12.00. Maeva went on to take the silver in the final in 11.65. Ava Fagan gave a promising performance in her first track Nationals in the 800m finishing 8th in her heat in 2:31.54. In the Long Jump, Dearbhaile Corcoran also took on her first Nationals and finished a strong 4th with a jump of 4.87.
U15’s – Hannah Ní Mhuircheartaigh took a well deserved silver in the Discuss with a throw of 27.94. She also finished 15th in the Triple Jump. In the Boys Long Jump Andrew Low finished 5th with his best jump of 5.31. Sorley Mullett finished 10th in the High Jump. On day 2 Julia Rzeszutko finished 3rd in heat 2 in 13.20.. the 800ms were on Day 2 with Daire Cronin in heat 1. Daire chose to lead out for most of the heat and then settled into a 4th place finish and a q to the final in 2:10.84. Luke Tracey ran in heat 2 finishing 3rd and a Q to the final in 2:12.26. In the final Daire finished 5th in 2:12.95 with Luke in 6th in 2:13.52
U16’s – Kate Gill finished 9th in the 3K in 11:19.76 In the boys 3K, Braxton O’Shea finished 8th in a time of 9:38.17 with a 24 second pb. In the U16 girls Javelin all 3 girls made the final 8. Ava Cosgrave finished 4th with a throw of 24.72. Savanah O’Neill finished 7th with a throw 21.64 and Eleanor Fanning finished her first National in 8th place with a throw of 19.22. We had a tearful farewell to Eleanor as she moves to a sunnier climate to start a new life and we wish her all the very best and hope she continues to throw the Javelin. In the 800m, Conor Kenny secured a q in heat one in 2:05.38 in a brilliant finish worthy of a final, with 2nd to 5th all finishing in 2:05… Braxton O’Shea finished 3rd in his heat and a Q to the final in 2:07.72. both had a great run in the final with Conor finishing 5th in 2:07.47 and Braxton finishing 6th in 2:08.57
U17’s – Ella O’Sullivan after a break for study and exams took on the 3K finishing 12th. In the 100m spring, Romi Banim finished 3rd in heat 1 and a q to the final in 12.47. Grainne Diamond Ebs finished 4th in heat 2 in 12.62. Romi finished 7th in the final in 12.64. On day 2, Lucy McFetridge ran her first National Track event in the 800m giving a strong performance finishing 7th in heat 3 in 2:26.17
U18’s – Ayana O’Callaghan finished 14th in the 3K. In the Boys 100m sprint, Sam O’Reilly finished 5th in heat 1 with a pb of 11.27. Ethan Thompson finished 2nd in the Hammer with a throw of 56.16. On Day 2 Edy Blacque finished 6th in heat 1 of the 800m in 2:06.58 with Joshua Chalmers finishing 7th in heat 2 in 2:08.97. In the Discus U18 Boys, Jaheim Humphrey took the tile with a throe of 48.08 while Conor Shevlin finished 11th with his throw of 25.32
U19’s – Isla Duncan finished an impressive 2nd with her first National Track Individual medal in 10:34.02. In the U19 Boys Hammer Dylan Jones also took silver with a throw of 48.25. In the 800m Rachel Ardiff finished 10th with a time of 2:40.06
Day 1 &2 gathered 3 golds, 6 silvers and one bronze and a bundle of PB’s.
Well done to all the athletes and supporters on a superb Clonliffe weekend. Fantastic to see our U14 girls out to support along with their parents displaying a true Clonliffe spirit. Thanks to all the parents who travelled over the two days to support and supplying sandwiches, cakes and goodies as well as support to every athlete out there.
