At a hot and sunny Tullamore Stadium yesterday, June 20th, it was mission accomplished for the Clonliffe women’s team in the preliminary round of the National league. Captain Ciara O’Regan summaries a fine day for the team: It was a great team effort and a fantastic day all around for the ladies’ team.
Blaithin Holden scored 9 points in hurdles, Niamh Whyte earned 12 points in the 1500m walk, and the 4x100m team—Grainne, Snezana, Maggie, and Emily—earned 12 points. Snezana also scored 10 points in the 200m, 12 in the triple jump, and 8 in pole vault. Grainne added 7 in long jump, and Maggie 10 in high jump. Alibhe Morgan earned 8 points in the 1500m. Zoe Mulligan scored 7 points in the 400m and, along with Alibhe Morgan, Aisling Andrews, and Alannah Cooley, earned 12 points in the 4x400m.
Helena Butterly scored 15 in the 3000m in a PB of 10.08.19, Isla Duncan won the 2000 steeplechase after an excellently executed race bagging 17 points, and Alannah Cooley earned 11 with her personal best of 2.18.58 in the 800m.
Emily Jachna had a strong 100m for 8 points. Vivian Okafor scored 8 points in shot put and 14 points with a 3rd place in weight for distance. Catherine and Yvonne, who learned discus and javelin in a week, scored 5 and 6 points. Shoutout to Zoe for stepping up on the day, and to Yvonne and Catherine for rising to the challenge! With this performance, the team made it to the final!
