Another good day for Clonliffe at IMC

Stephen Bateson reports: At today’s Irish Milers Meeting in Irishtown the Club’s Senior athletes were out in
force and star of the show was again the ageless Colm Rooney who recorded
14:12:05 in the 5000 m A race just pipped to the line by German Sebastian Hauf,
who has a 13:54 :00 PB. Fintan Kerins was well in contention until coming up to the
bell and was only dropped from the leading 3 with 200 m to go, however he finished
a fine 5th in a new track PB of 14:18:13.

In the Women’s 1500m B Race Ailbhe Morgan finished 6th in a time of 4:46:99 knocking some 4 seconds off her PB.

A PB also in the 5000m B race for Tom Breslin finishing in 3rd and taking a mega chunk of 20 secs off
his PB with 14:53.34

In the 800 m B race , Sean Carrigg came very close to bettering his PB in one of the
more exciting races with a blanket finish with the top 5 separated by 0.5 sec. Sean
ran 1:53:05 and was 0.2 sec outside his pb.

Colm Rooney took on pacing duties for the 1500 m B race. Ben Guiden and Ed
Tottenham ran fine races behind the 63 second laps that Colm expertly paced.
Coming to the bell Ben Guiden was right behind Colm who stayed on pace until 250
m to go at which point Ben extended his lead to finish 1st in a big PB of 3:55:25. Ed
Tottenham finished in 4:01:47 in 5th which is his best performance since his long road
back to recovery from injury.

Malcom Kiplagat was the sole Clonliffe representative in the 1500 m C race and
recorded a 5th place finish in 4:07:11. Malcom held his position well through the race
and gave everything in the 3rd lap, unfortunately tied up a little coming into the last
200 m but hugely positive effort on the day.

In the 1500 D race Aaron Murray ran a PB of 4:09:58 finishing in 2nd running a
very mature race and moved nicely through the field and well deserved his first sub
4:10. Stephen Lyons too ran a well paced race to finish in 5th in a time of 4:15:61,
and a well deserved PB, reflecting the huge effort that he has put in over recent
months.
