Eugenia Bateson: Sunday 12th October saw a beautiful day of Cross Country racing for the Juvenile Even Age Cross Country Championships. Conditions were excellent, nice ground conditions, no rain or wind and an atmosphere of excitement – a perfect cocktail !
Some of our Juveniles wore our new singlets giving them a debut outing and most definately ensuring that we looked the strong contenders we are.
The confirmed results are in and well done to all.
From the Teams Perspective we have qualifications to the National Championships which will be held in Derry on the 23rd November for the following teams:
Teams
U14 Boys – Team Gold
U16 Girls – 4th Place
U16 Boys – 3rd Place
U18 Girls – 3rd Place
U18 Boys – 4th Place
Individual team members will be confirmed with their coaches in the coming week and the hard graft of National Championship training will begin.
In the individual events below are the results:
U10 Girls

Some fine running from these young ladies clearly showing enormous potential and great days ahead.
U10 Boys
18th for Jack Nolan
53rd for Leo Costello
U12 Girls
Sisters Ria and Freya Hobbs lead the team home to 6th place finishing 27th and 28th respectively.
39th Molloy O’Brien
42nd for young Ellie Walsh completing the scoring 4
with Bethany Hollywood in 65th, Matilda Hughes in 72nd, Olivia Low 88th, and Brianna Lawless 98th. A stacked field on a tough course, our U12 Girls did us proud.
U12 Boys
A fine run form Thomas O’Brien finishing in 18th and leading the team to 7th, 36th for Lenny Keane Flannery, 40th for Luke Stevenson and Charlie O’Regan in 50th completing the scoring 4. A great team effort from this team of mostly new athletes, again showing great days to come. Eoin O’Sullivan had a fin run to 54th following by Conall Ahern in 56th and John Curtin in 57th, Ben McHugh in 70th, Fionn Thompson in 74th, Thomas Higgins 86th, and Cameron Neary 87th. Well done lads, a tremendous effort.
U14 Girls
U13 Ava Fagan had a stormer of a run on this team finishing in 16th leaving the team to 5th, closing followed by her team mate Adrianna Madrzynska in 18th. Hannah Ni Mhuircheartaigh finished 22nd with Muireann Spence completing the scoring 4 in 26th, Nessa Byrne finished 29th and Sarah Thomas in 33rd. Lucy Fagan had a very impressive run, particularly on the hills that she seemed to glide up finishing 39th with an equally impressive Aliyah Riyad finishing in 45th. The team were a mere 2 points of qualification to the Nationals which was heartbreaking for them but they could not have done anymore on the day and will come back stronger in the Uneven Age Championships. A group of girls to watch for the future.
U14 Boys
Race of the day by far with Luke Tracey taking a very impressive win leading the team home to gold. Seamus Phelan finished 5th, Sam Steenson 7th, Daire Cronin 8th, completing the score of 21 points with Finn McGurren in 11th and Andrew Low in 18th. Conn Feore finished 25th, Darragh Kidd 28th, Adam Phelan 29th, Ruairí Donnelly Brown in 30th, Channing O’Shea in 33rd and Rhys Daly in 55th. With 5 in the top 12, it could not be argued that the Clonliffe lads pulled together and dominated this race. It also showed massive depth in the squad, which was compounded by the fact that about half of the team are sprinters. Another exciting group to watch.
U16 Girls
This was such a strong showing of team work and genuine support for each other I have seen for a while. Kate Gill got a well deserved top 12 finishing 9th leading the team to 4th and National Qualification. Carragh Nigfhloinn finished 20th, with cross country girl herself Sophia Tennant in 21st and new comer Alex Wallace completing the scoring 4 in 25th. Geve Duncan had a fantastic run finishing 34t followed by Ella O’Sullivan in 42nd. A long awaited National Championship debut for these girls and very much deserved.
U16 Boys
The lads were very focused on the goal of National Qualification for the team and ran a steady race, an easy opening lap with a charge to the end. Braxton O’Shea was first man home in 9th taking Conor Kenny on the inside on the finish line in 10th. Hayden was a strong 15th with Darragh Nicholson Canny completing the scoring 4 in 20th. Mark Kelly is coming back to form finishing 25th with Cormac Tynan in 27th. Dominic Vaitulionis 28th, Eoghan Thomas finished 31st, new comer Ryan Fagan in 38th, Joel Thomas 43rd and Connor Kelly in 44th.
U18 Girls
Isla Duncan showed her hard work and dedication to training paying off finishing 4th. Job done in securing her place in National Championships as she continues with her development. Sophie Kernan showed that her love as an U12 for Cross Country stayed with her as she finished a fine 8th place, Ayana O’Callaghan ran an excellent first Cross Country race finishing 14th with Rachel Ardiff storming down the finish in 25th to complete the scoring 4 and securing 3rd place for the team. Mae Rose Mason finished 34th and Hannah Walsh after some absence finishing 35th. Rebecca Finn showed enormous resilience and dedication to her team in finishing 38th.
U18 Boys
In what looked like a Donore Club Championship race we had 5 lads out in a bid to qualify for Nationals as a team. Returning from illness and injury the lads set themselves the task to qualify and get back to training. Edy Blaque finished 21st, Sean Henry 22nd, Liam Arthur 23rd and Joshua Chalmers finishing 26th earning a 4rth place qualification. Fiachra O’Donovan finished 47th. Well done lads – job done!
It was a fantastic day for the black and amber Juvenile Section of the club with 5 teams going to Nationals and Luke Tracey taking a Dublin Championship title.
The Uneven Age Championships take place in City West on the 2nd November, entries close on the 27th October – STRICTLY NO LATE ENTRIES.
