Strong performances from Clonliffe juveniles at Dublin C’ships

Eugenia Bateson reports: This weekend was a marathon of Dublin Juvenile Track and Fields events and one that  did not disappoint.

In total we took 17 Dublin Championship titles, 9 Silvers,  10 Bronze Medals, and a further 10 National qualification spots with 4th place finishes.

Dublin Championship Titles went to:

U13 Boys 60mH – Lenny Keane Flannery

Friday evening got out to a brilliant start with U19 Isla Duncan trying out the Steeplechase for size and boy did it fit!  She ran a fine race, very comfortable throughout and hard to believe it was her first time to run a steeplechase.  She took the title comfortably in this 3K event in 11:48.63

In the U12 High Jump, Eoin O’Sullivan was unlucky not to go through to nationals with his 5th place finish on countback with a jump of 1.20.  Thomas O’Brien finished 10th with his jump of 1.15.  In the U13 Boys, Fionn Thompson finished 14th with his jump of 1.10.

In the U14 Boys Hammer it was a 1st and 2nd for Clonliffe with Dylan Thompson throwing 36.58.  Rhys Daly giving it a go finished 2nd with his best throw of 15.99  In the High Jump, Channing O’Shea took the gold with 1.55 with Rhys Day taking the bronze with 1.50 and Isaac O’Neill also through to nationals with his 4th place finish, also jumping 1.50

In the U17 Boys Javelin, Samuel Arthur threw 21.04 to take the bronze.  In the U18 Boys Hammer, Ethan Thompson took gold with a throw of 58.39 and Dylan Jones took the U19 Boys Hammer gold with a throw of 49.66

In the Girls U15 Throw, Hannah Ni Mhuircheartaigh threw 21.25 for the bronze.

Saturday saw a full day of events with sprints and hurdles on the track.  In the U13 boys, heat one, Charlie O’Regan finished 7th in his heat,  Lenny Keane Flannery finished 2nd in heat 2 with a Q to the final in 10.92 and James Glynn finished 5th taking a q to the final in 12.10.  Lenny Keane Flannery took his first Dublin Championship title in the hurdles in 10.35.  James Glynn finished in 10th in 12.46..  In the U14 Boys 75mH, Isaac O’Neill finished 2nd in heat 1 with Rhys Daly 3rd, both taking Q to the final.  Channing O’Shea took a q to the final from heat 2.  Isaac O’Neill qualified for nationals in 4th place in the final in 12.20 with Channing finishing 6th in 13.46 and Rhys finishing 8th in the final in 14.13.  In the Boys U15 80mH, Sorley Mullett took 4th place in 16.71.  

Staying with the boys, in the U14 Boys 200m heats, Isaac won the 1st heat in 25.52, Rhys Daly was 2nd in heat 2 in 28.26, David Chilug was 8th in heat 3 and Channing O’Shea was 3rd in heat 4.  Isaac won the final in 25.47.  In the U15 Boys 200m, Adam Phelan was 5th in heat 1.  Andrew Low finished 4th in heat 2 and a q to the final in 26.30 and Sorley Mullett was 6th in heat 3.  Andrew finished 6th in the final in 27.01..  In the U18 boys 200m heats, Sam O’Reilly won  heat 1 in 23.89 and a Q to the final.  Sam finished 2nd in the final in 23.63

In the Girls 60mh, Molly O’Brien was 8th in heat 1, Brianna Lawless was 7th in heat 2, Matilda Hughes was 8th in heat 3.  In the U14 Girls 75mh, Maeva Edo Czechowska finished 1st in heat 1, Molly Hughes finished 6th in heat 2 with a q to the final in 14.34 and Caoimhe Bushell finished 10th in her heat in 16.14.  Maeve had a brilliant run in the final to take the title comfortably in 11.96.  Molly finished an excellent 9th in 14.25  In the U15 80mh, Julia Rzeszutko finished 2nd in heat 1 with a Q to the final in 13.06, and Anabella Kupiec Boyle finished 4th in heat 2 also through to the final in 15.32.  Julia was 2nd in the final in 12.94 with Anabella finishing a fine 6th in 14.83.  In the girls 200m Millie Ryan had a brilliant 3rd place finish in her heat and unlucky not to make the final.  Dearbhaile Corcoran was 3rd in heat 2, Maeva Edo Czechowska won heat 3rd in 27.53 and a q to the final,  Molly Hughes was 7th in heat 4, Caoimhe Bushell was 5th in heat 5, Adrianna Madrzynska was 3rd in heat 6 and Daisy Asante Keenan was 3rd in heat 7.  A fine representation of our sprints girls across the heats.  In the final, Maeva took the bronze in 27.51.  In the U15 Girls 200m, Faye McConnell was 7th in heat 1, Nessa Byrne was 3rd in heat 4, Julia Rzeszutko was 3rd in heat 5 with Anabella Kupiec Boyle 4th in the same heat.  In the U17 Girls Romi Banim won heat 2 in 26.22 and ran 25.86 in the final to take the silver.  In the U19 Girls 200m, Maggie Szuta took bronze in 27.41.

In Saturday’s Field events, in the boys U12 Long Jump, Alex Ryan finished 5th in group 1 with Eoin O’Sullivan finishing 5th in Group 2.  In the U13 Boys, Lenny Keane Flannery finished 3rd in Group 1 with Isaac Kupiec Boyle 6th in that group and James Glynn 10th.  In group 2 Charlie O’Regan finished 12th with Joshua Daly finished 13th.  In the U14 Boys Discus, Rhys Daly finished 6th.  In the U15 Boys Discus Sorley Mullett also finished 6th.  Sorley also did the U15 Boys High Jump where he took the silver with his best jump of 1.35.  In the U16 Boys High Jump, Eoghan Thompson finished 6th with a jump of 1.50.  Caelan Doggett Finne won the U17 Boys Shot Put with a throw of 7.66.  In the U18 Boys High Jump, Matthew Keogh jumped 1.70 to take the silver.

Moving to the girls field events, in the U12 Girls, Leah Bushell finished 25th in Group 2 of the Long Jump.  In the U13 Long Jump, Bethany Hollywood finished 11th in group 1, Brianna Lawless finished 14th and Matilda Hughes finished 18th in that group.  Molly O’Brien finished 12th in Group 2 with Maelle Wilson finishing 19t in that group.  Hannah Ni Mhuircheartaigh won the U15 Girls Discus with a throw of 29.63 Savannah O’Neill qualified for U16 Discus in Nationals with her 4th place finish with her throw of 16.44.  Savannah finished 5th in the U15 Shot Putt with a throw of 7.47.  In the U19 Girls High Jump, Maggie Szuta jumped 1.45 to take the gold.

On the final day of individual competition, Alex Ryan was our sole participant in the U12 boys 60m and finished 3rd in heat 6.  In the U13 Boys 80m Isaac Kupiec Boyle finished 3rd in heat 1 with a small q to the final.  Charlie O’Regan finished 6th in that heat.  Fionn Thompson finished 7th in heat 2, Lenny Keane Flannery won heat 3 in 11.69 and a q to the final.  James Glynn finished 3rd in heat 3.  In heat 5, Joshua Conaghan finished 2nd in heat 2 in 11.43 and a q to the final.  In the final, Joshua Conaghan finished 2nd in 11.28, Lenny Keane Flannery finished 5th in 11.80 and Isaac Kupiec Boyle finished 10th in 12.54. In the U14 Boys 80m heats, Rhys Daly finished 2nd in heat 1 in 11.79 and a Q to the final,   Channing O’Shea wone heat 2 in 11.42 and Isaac O’Neill finished 2nd in heat 3 in 11.23 and Q to the final.  In the final Isaac ran 10.86 to take the silver with Rhys taking bronze in 11.11.  Channing finished 5th in 11.48.  In the U15 Boys 100m heats, Andrew Low finished 5th taking a q to the final with his time of 13.92.  Unfortunately suffering an injury was forced to withdraw from the final.  the U18 Boys was a straight final with Sam O’Reilly taking bronze in 12.20.  Matthew Keogh finished 5th in 12.40.

In the girls Sprints, Kate Ni Mhuircheartaigh was 9th in heat 3 of the U13 girls 80m, Bethany Hollywood was 4th in heat 4, Brianna Lawless was 9th in heat 5, Matilda Hughes was 8th in heat 7.  In the U14 Girls, Daisy Asante Keenan won heat 1 in 11.76, Maeva Edo Czechowska won heat 2 in 11.24, Caoimhe Bushell was 5th in heat 3, Molly Hughes was 7th in heat 4,  Dearbhaile Corcoran was 2nd in heat 5 and Millie Ryan was 3rd in heat 3.  Maeva Edo Czechowska took the title in 10.99.  Millie finished 6th in 11.40 and Daisy finished 9th in 11.82.  In the U15 Girls 100m Anabella Kupiec Boyle was 5th in heat 1, Hannah Ni Mhuircheartaigh was 6th in heat 2, Julia Rzeszutko was 4th in heat 4 with a q to the final.  Julia finished 6th in the final in 14.16.  The U17 Girls 100m was a straight final with Grainne Diamond Ebs taking the gold in 13.26.  IN the U19 Girls straight final, Charis Amponsa was 3rd in 13.70.

In the field events, U12 Girls Javelin, Megan Glynn finished 9th in group 2.  In the U13 Girls Shot, Brianna Lawless finished 5th and Matilda Hughes finished 17th. In the Girls U14 Long Jump, Dearbhaile Corcoran 3rd overall with a jump of  4.71 with MIla Webb finishing 13th in group 1  Millie Ryan finished 4th in group 2 and Molly Hughes finished 12th with Caoimhe Bushell finishing 14th.   In the High Jump U15 Anabella Kupiec Boyle finished 8th.  In the triple jump Hannah Ni Mhuircheartaigh finished 5th

Staying with the girls, in the U14 1500m, Ava Fagan had a fine run finishing 6th in 5:18.71.  Adrianna Madrzynska finished 9th in 5:29.20, Sarah Thomas finished 12th in 5:34.98 with Grace Byrne finishing 13th in 5:37.26.  In the girls 1500m U15, Nessa Byrne took 4th and through to nationals in 5:07.79.  Aliyah Riyad had a brilliant and brave run finishing 5th in 5:13.288 and Tess Deegan finished 12th.  In the U16 1500m, Kate Gill also qualified for Nationals with her 4th place finish in 5:05.90 with Carragh Nighfloinn in 5th in 5:17.95.  the U18 and U19 Girls was a combined race.  In the U18 results, Ayana O’Callaghan finished 5th in 5:22.46, while Isla Duncan took her 2nd Title of the weekend winning the U19 race in 4:58.59.  Rachel Ardiff won bronze in 5:18.87  Finishing out the girls track events was the walks and a very popular and well deserved silver in the girls U14 2K walk for Aoife Fowler in 13:28.86.  Nessa Byrne won the U15 walk in 13:20.47.

In the boys field events, U12 boys Turbo Javelin, Alex Ryan was 3rd in group 1.  Charlie O’Regan was 13th in the boys U13 Shot Put.  In the boys U14 Long Jump, Channing O’Shea finished 1st with a jump of 4.97 with Isaac O’Neill taking the silver with 4.93.  Rhys Daly finished 5th with 4.60.  In the U18 Discuss Jaheim Humphrey took the gold with 48.46 and Conor Shelvin threw 27.32 to take the 4th spot.

In the Boys middle distance races saw some brilliant races.  In the U14 Boys, Finn McGurren secured his place at Nationals with a 4th place finish in 5:03.78.  Conn Feore finished 8th in 5:11.84, Rhys Jenkins had a brilliant battle to the line finishing 11th in 5:17.60 and Senna Carson finished 12th in 5:23.36.  Luke Tracey took the gold in the U15 Boys in 4:32.83 with Daire Cronin also going to Nationals with his 4th place finish in 4:37.58.  Seamus Phelan finished 5th in 4:41.88 and Sam Steenson finished 9th in 4:45.13  with Adam Phelan having a strong finish in 5:06.83.  Race of the day was the U16 Boys 1500m with some brilliant running.  A battle to the line saw Braxton O’Shea take bronze in 4:31.21 and Conor Kenny also going to Nationals with the time of 4:31.31.  Christopher Collins finished 7th in 4:39.91, Eoghan Thompson finished 14th in 5:02.96 and Joel Thomas finished 15th.  In the U17 1500m Ryan Fagan finished 12th in 4:50.85 and Darragh Nicholson Canny finished 14th in 5:05.65.  In the U18 Boys 1500m Fiachra O’Donovan finished 9th in 4:54.83 and Tom Rushe finished 11th in 5:00.53

An amazing weekend of Juvenile Athletics by our Juvenile Section over these championships, with 69 individual qualifications to National Championships. Many thanks to our parents who volunteered over the weekend, this is very much appreciated.  Round 3 of the league entries close tonight (Sunday 7th June).  The Dublin Championships close out with the relay events this coming Wednesday and Friday.  The best of luck to all our teams and their coaches competing there.
