Stephen Bateson: On a relatively quiet weekend the main action was overseas at the European Masters indoors and the American Collegiate competitions.
In the indoor European Masters in Torun, Poland, Edel Maguire won W65 Silver with a new Irish record of 1:37 and only missed out on gold on count back.
In the W65 400m, Edel was again 1st in a time of 67:65
Stephen Harkness finished 17th in the 5K in the O/40 category in a SB of 16:41. Stephen was a member of the Irish team that finished 3rd.
Philip O’Doherty was a scorer on the M65 5k team that captured gold with a 19:16.
In the Berlin Half Marathon, Pierre St Leger, a “graduate “ from the Fit4Life program ran a pb of 1:42.47.
Over in the states, Seán Cronin who ran 3:43.72 in his first race over 1500m this season. Seán shaved 0.15 off his PB when anchoring his college, La Salle, to 2nd.in the prestigious Raleigh Relays in North Carolina .
In Fort Collins Colorado, a good outdoors season openers for Gavin Cougle 10.43 in the 100 and 21.12 in 200m.
On the roads there was some action with
Anto Doran who finished 5th in the Limerick 10 Mile . Anto ran 56:19 on a hilly course in very adverse weather conditions.
Sean Doran was 1st in 25:40 in the
BHAA ALSAA Aer Lingus 5 mile

Edel Maguire captured her 3rd medal anr the 2026 European Masters Indoor Championship in Torun, Poland and 2nd gold in today’s 60m. Edel progressed from Heat 1, in 2nd place with an opening 9:43. In the final she won gold in a time of 9:11.
Missed at the weekend roundup was the outstanding endeavours of Oran Finegan who was placed 6th overall and 1st. O/50 in the IMRA Maurice Mullins 50Km. in the Wicklow mountains on Saturday . Oran ran this grueling distance in 4:22:11. ( 50 K : 5 miles longer than a full marathon ! Running for well over 4 hours ! ).
